Boise ReWild Project X IBO
Have you ever floated down the Boise River from Barbara Park to Ann Morrison? Have you sipped on Push and Pour coffee while watching surfers at the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation Boise Whitewater Park? Or perhaps, you’ve fished for rainbow trout in the brisk morning air beneath Friendship Bridge?
The Boise River is a staple to the Treasure Valley. Not only does it provide recreational entertainment for over 150,000 people, it is a safe haven for a variety of wildlife.
The Boise River ReWild Project, started by Golden Eagle Audubon and the City of Boise, works to protect and restore natural habitats along the Boise River. By December of THIS year, their goal is to restore over 50 acres of habitat. That’s the equivalent of more than 37 blue Boise State football fields… That’s a lot of land.
This year, Idaho Business for the Outdoors has teamed up with the ReWild Project to adopt two plots of land. Part of IBO’s mission is to help protect the lands we love to recreate on. Our business partners are essential to this part of our mission. Together we work on giving back to the lands and waters that give so much to us.
On Public Lands Day, September 23rd, we met our friends from the ReWild Project at our adopted river plot and got to work. We had enthusiastic volunteers representing Micron, Boise Cascade, Mother Earth Brewing, Resilience LLC, and Albertsons. With the help of our business partners and their families, we removed invasive species and replaced them with native plants. In two hours, the group planted over 160 new native plants. Before November, we have an ambitious goal to plant 500 native plants on our plots.
This event brought our community together to preserve and protect our natural spaces. Thank you to everyone who participated, check out our events page for upcoming opportunities to get involved.
